Writing to your audience
Charles Hallman joined the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder in 1990. He brought his wit to our class Monday, March 23. He really nailed the topic for the evening: Defining Your Audience and Going Where Mainstream Rarely Goes. He defines himself as a rebel of sorts, and is not afraid of controversy. He hit home his belief that, at a small paper, you can have access to stories that larger papers just can't get to. Why? People trust you, and if you live up to that trust, you will serve your audience well. His advice to students ... keep writing and read, read, read.
